Disability Driving Instructor
Jayne Dawson is Driving School Wirral’s Disability Driving Instructor. Over the past 6 months Jayne has spent a lot of time researching what we can do for our customers to maintain their independence for longer and to enable those customers who never thought they would be able to drive, to now do so.
Jayne has attended many training sessions and now has a support network of fellow disability driving instructors from the North West and around the UK. Through her extensive research she has now adapted her vehicle to support new customers.
Her adaptive vehicle now contains left and right steering balls, independent hand and foot control with right-handed indicator.
We are pleased that Jayne has become our Disability Driving Champion and enables a wider proportion of our community to become and maintain being safe drivers for life.
This week Jayne has commenced training other members of our DSW family and making a series of videos (soon to be published on the website) to show you how simple this process is to convert from driving a standard automatic vehicle to an adapted one.
We will also publish videos to show the process for complete beginners to driving, who may have never considered driving as an opportunity available to them.
Driving an adapted vehicle has only the same challenges as learning to drive any other vehicle. With the correct training and your commitment, it is possible.
Jayne’s lessons in the adapted vehicle are due to January 2022.
Important information regarding lessons and private practice:
Even if you have passed your driving test and have your own vehicle Jayne will need to undertake an initial assessment and early lessons in her vehicle until she is satisfied that your driving is at the required standard.
